Today was my first Zumba class- my method of choice to get back into shape! I loved it! No wonder its become so popular- its dirty dancing from the club but done in the morning!
Here in south Georgia there aren't too many clubs to go dancing at- actually let me rephrase- there is no place to go dancing within an forty five+ minute drive... which is fine but it can get very boring out here in the country! This might explain why the Zumba ladies had to move into a bigger studio because of capacity issues! It was quite full today at the 9:30 session... which made it fun to see all the other ladies jumping, shaking, and shouting. So here is my first impression of Zumba:
It was great! From the first moment I walked in I was excited. The studio is brick with spray paint and tin sheets- very urban. They keep the lights dark- colored spot lights and such so it almost feels like a club. The instructor was great- very energetic and exciting which was great since the dances never stop coming.
For a full hour you are moving non-stop. There are no breaks- you stop for water when you need to but the dances themselves move from one song to another in a short period of time. The music, by the way, was great- it was a mix of current pop and hip hop hits, Latin grooves, and even flashbacks to the eighties! I liked the mix since the current pop songs were slower paced which helped with my asthma! Those let me catch my breath before the Latin dances pumped up my heart! The moves and sequences weren't that difficult- some of the more salsa style moves where a little tricky to get at first and there is still one that evaded me but overall they were easy to follow. What surprised me, and I guess it shouldn't have, was how sexy the moves were! You are really out there shaking what your momma gave ya! From shimmy shakes to booty shakes, you do it all and it feels great!
Overall I worked up a great sweat and could tell that I was getting a great workout in. I realized how out of shape I am about forty five minutes into the class- I was dragging for a few songs and had to slow myself down. I looked around and noticed women twice my age sticking with it and grooving on pace and realized I have a ways to go! But I cannot wait to go back on Thursday!
That's all for now! :-)

Why Hello There
So I wanted to start a blog and here I am, on a rainy night when the weather ruined my dish network signal, so what better time to start than now?
Perhaps I should share a little about me...my name is Kerrie and I live in south Georgia for the time being. I'm originally from a small town in Connecticut (Go Huskies!) and moved here about a year ago with my husband who serves in the Navy. He’s currently deployed so I’m here all by lonesome save for a few amazing friends who make the time go by faster. I keep busy by volunteering on a local state senate race and coordinating a fundraiser for the Georgia Speaker of the House. I love politics and government, its a passion of mine as well as the focus of my education. I graduated in 2007 with a B.A. in Poli Sci from UCONN and in May, I earned my Masters of Government with a focus on Law and Public Policy and Political Management. When I'm not working on the campaigns I love to spend time reading. That's about it for me!
So why did I want to start a blog? Well, I need motivation. Since I married my amazing husband, Nathan, I’ve let myself go and I want to change. In college I was able to avoid the freshman fifteen since I didn’t spend my weekends chugging beer but somehow no one told me about the marriage thirty you can gain in the first three years of marriage! Its shameful I know but at least I’ve come to terms with what needs to be done! So here I am, writing this blog as a journal for weight loss, exercise, and dieting aka a food journal. And knowing me, I’ll throw a little in about my day, my thoughts, my plans, and opinions! Who knows what this will become...
Here we go!
